Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is an ancient Shiva temple in Kottayam, Kerala, India. Temple tradition has it that the Pandavas and the sage Vyasa had worshipped at this temple. It is believed that at this place [ooru] Lord Siva appeared in Eight [ Ettu] different forms [ maanam] and hence the name Ettumanoor.

The present temple building, with its gopuram and the fortress around it, was reconstructed in 717 ME (1542 AD). There are Dravidian mural paintings on the walls inside and outside of the main entrance. The fresco of Pradosha Nritham (Dance of Shiva) is one of the finest wall paintings in India.

POOJA & RITUALS

At the Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple, devotees can immerse themselves in a variety of poojas and rituals performed to honor Lord Shiva. The rituals start early morning ( 4 AM) with the Nirmalya Darshan, offering a glimpse of the deity adorned with fresh flowers and holy ash. The Madhavippilly pooja, held in the morning, is a significant and special ceremony connected historically to the samorins ,where the deity is worshipped with utmost devotion. Other rituals such as the Usha Puja, Panthiradi Puja, Ethirth Puja , Ucha Puja, and Athazha Puja are performed with great reverence by the temple priests.
